Drake Maye has heard from New England Patriots teammates who are tired of losing.
It’s that mindset that has the second-year quarterback the most excited for the 2025 campaign.
“What excites me most?” Maye responded after Day 1 of Patriots training camp at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday. “I think you’ve got guys around here that are tired of losing around here and guys that want to win. I think that’s what excites me most. Guys want to win around here.
“I think the past two or three years around here, the past year for me, I can only speak for myself, but I think there’s guys around here that are tired of losing and want to win.”
Losing certainly has become a common occurrence at One Patriot Place. New England has experienced back-to-back four-win seasons and has not won a playoff game since Super Bowl LIII. The Patriots are on their third coach in three years with head coach Mike Vrabel replacing Jerod Mayo, who took over for Bill Belichick the year prior.
So, it makes sense players that arrived in New England after having seen success — Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, Kyle Dugger, Jabrill Peppers, etc. — would be disappointed by the lack of it in recent years. It’s something fans will relate with, too.
Perhaps these new-look Patriots will be the ones to help the organization get back to relevance after decades in the spotlight.
