With trade rumors starting to swirl, we take a look at what “successful” might mean for the Cleveland Browns’ three different units on the field.

Special Teams

The Browns’ special teams have made some key errors this season in untimely moments, including a Detroit Lions punt return for a touchdown and a blocked punt against the Baltimore Ravens. These issues, along with other special teams errors, have greatly contributed to their losses this season. If the Browns can see a sharp decline in these errors for the rest of the 2025 season, they can feel a lot better about what they have in this group.

Defense

After a tough closing drive in the game against the Minnesota Vikings, the Cleveland defense is hoping to bounce back against the Pittsburgh Steelers. By most metrics, the Browns’ defense has been top 5 in the league this season. If this group can see continued progress from their rookies like Mason Graham and Carson Schwesinger, this season will be a success on that side of the ball.

Offense

Out of all three units, the offense has had the biggest struggles this season. It isn’t just one aspect of the game – the passing game and running game have both been a disappointment in many ways. Success will look a lot different for the offense than it does for the defense. Quinshon Judkins has been a pleasant surprise this season, and the team should feel encouraged if he continues his success in the running game. With the recent change at quarterback, it would be great to see some bigger offensive performances where the team can put more than 20 points on the board. Continued improvements in these areas can give the team some confidence going into the 2026 season.
