JB and Lester have some thoughts on the Bears coaching search.
Ben Johnson’s new offense may use some concepts similar to those he used with the Detroit Lions the last few years, but as he did with his previous quarterback, Jared Goff, Johnson will build his Chicago Bears playbook around Caleb Williams.
“This offense will be calibrated around him,” Johnson said about Williams at his introductory press conference. “We’re going to build this thing. This is not simply a dropping of a previous playbook down on the table and starting there. Nope, we’re ripping this thing down to the studs, and we’re going to build it out with him first and foremost, and then with the pieces around him next. I really look forward to challenging him and pushing him to continue to grow and develop.”
Williams’ skill set is different from Goff’s, and to help us learn what Johnson may implement, we’re going to talk with Bobby Peters on our next Bear & Balanced. Peters has written books on several NFL offenses, which you can find on Amazon, so there’s no one better to break down some Xs & Os.
He’ll go over some of Ben Johnson’s previous passing concepts he believes will work for Williams, he’ll touch on how the Lions ran the ball so effectively, and he’ll also go over some things Williams did well in 2024 that we’re sure to see on their new playbook.
