While the talk around the Chicago Bears focuses on a new stadium potentially being in Indiana, the team itself is looking to make some major noise in the NFC North and in the NFL in 2026. With the Bears looking to level up next season, head coach Ben Johnson would speak on what the mindset looks like currently in minicamp.
As veteran minicamp starts this week for Chicago, Johnson is looking for the team in his second year as head coach to “establish our way of going about our business in the building and on the grass.”
“We’ve made significant strides there,” Johnson said, according to Chris Emma. “We continue to get better with our practice habits and what it looks like, pursuit on defense, finish on offense, all the fundamentals, block after catch, maximizing our run after catch, looking to emphasize takeaways and ball security on offense. It’s been a good back and forth. I mean, that’s the cool thing. When you watch it through six practices so far (in OTAs) and seeing the offense having the upper hand sometimes and the defense having the upper hand sometimes too, there’s a good back and forth going on right now. It’s really healthy.”
The Bears took a step forward last season in Johnson’s first year, capturing the NFC North and winning their first playoff game for the first time in over a decade. Besides Johnson, the team is also featuring star quarterback Caleb Williams, who has also taken strides, as the relationship between the two looks to reach another level.
“There’s things that he looks to apply the next time we go to practice, and he does a really good job of taking it…That showed up last year, and that continues to show up here this spring. So, the more our minds kind of think the same, I think the better off we are in the long run,” Johnson said, via Emma.
At any rate, it remains to be seen how and if Chicago will take another stride this season.
