Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman did it again. He acquired young cover cornerback Jakorian Bennett from the Las Vegas Raiders for defensive tackle Thomas Booker.
With the move, the Birds might have found their second starting cornerback opposite Quinyon Mitchell.
In 10 games with the Raiders in 2024 — Bennett underwent season-ending surgery for a torn labrum in his shoulder in November — the third-year corner allowed just 18 receptions on 37 targets for 176 yards, with eight pass breakups. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Eagles beat writer Olivia Reiner, his 48.6% target rate was the third-lowest among corners with at least 250 coverage snaps.
As CBS Sports’ NFL writer Jeff Kerr points out, Bennett allowed a 52.1 passer rating as the primary defender last year, surrendering just 4.4 yards per pass attempt with no touchdowns while quarterbacks completed only 45% of their passes against him.

Bennett also played in 71% of defensive snaps for the Raiders in 2024.
“We liked his tape coming out (of Maryland),” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters on Tuesday. “We liked his tape while he was with the Raiders. He’s got speed, coverage ability, special teams value, so we’re excited to have him.”
Jakorian Bennett will get tossed into the CB mix and compete for the open spot on the outside with Kelee Ringo, Adoree’ Jackson, et al.

There are concerns about Bennett, though. He’s viewed as undersized for an outside corner at 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, and as Reiner reports, he had the highest missed-tackle rate on pass plays in 2024 at 29.2%.
The trade comes as other potential starters, Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo, have failed to separate themselves in training camp.
Booker, who had a strong camp for the Birds prior to the trade, played in just 16% of defensive snaps last year as a rotational piece. He recorded 18 tackles and one sack for Philadelphia last season.
Getting a potential starting cornerback in Bennett for Booker can be considered a steal for Roseman. Not only does he upgrade at a position of need, but he also adds depth at corner and special teams.
Bennett was a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has 11 pass breakups, 58 tackles and no interceptions in 24 career games — 11 starts — over his first two seasons.
