The Indianapolis Colts are on the road to take on the New England Patriots for their week thirteen game, Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
Week 12 came and went and our Colts lost to a Detroit Lions team who, for the first time in nearly a century, is likely the best team in the NFL. The fact that they lost isn’t frustrating or surprising, but the way that they lost was absolutely frustrating to watch. If you just look at the box score a week ago the offense looked bad. If you go back and see the more than 150 yards of offense that were lost due to penalty and then you consider how differently the game might have gone had those not been committed, then well, it gets frustrating. There were multiple issues from the tight ends that cost the team dearly, a dropped walk in touchdown from Drew Ogletree, a failure by Kylen Granson to recognize he was the hot receiver and needed to look for the ball at the snap and adjust, a long completion called back due to holding on Drew Ogletree and just the general fact that Mo Alie-Cox moves only slightly better than my 66 year old father who needs a knee replacement and well tight end looks to be this team’s biggest need heading into the offseason.
All in all, the Colts looked okay against the Lions. The defense did a great job limiting the Lions to 24 points and the Colts offense just couldn’t get out of their own way. This week has the potential to be different.
Week 13’s matchup will feature the two youngest starting quarterbacks in the NFL. Drake Maye is exactly 100 days younger than Anthony Richardson, both young men are 22 years old and neither has separated themselves as being franchise quarterbacks, yet. Both have shown flashes but Maye tends to take a lot of sacks and has too many turnovers, things Richardson doesn’t typically do.
This week will be interesting to see if the Colts offense, who will be without several key starters can clean up their act from a week ago. Defensively, we should all hope for a strong showing from the pass rush and defensive backfield against a team that just isn’t very good offensively. This game should be a good one for the Colts, but it is December in Foxborough. Historically these types of games haven’t been a lot of fun for Colts fans.
