Week 1: Thursday Night Football- Social media reactions
Canal Street Chronicles Canal Street Chronicles

The 2025 NFL regular season kicked off on Thursday night with a divisional matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Rivalry games are always sure to provide fireworks, but this game had sparks flying before the first snap. The Eagles went blow for blow with Dallas before sending them home with a 0-1 record and claiming a 24-20 victory. Let’s check out how social media reacted to the first game of the new football year.

You Can’t Do That!:

Prior to the first play of the new season, Philadelphia’s Jalen Carter was ejected from Thursday’s contest after being disqualified for spitting at Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott. As trainers tended to an injured player following the opening kickoff, both sides met on the field before Prescott and Carter began jarring. Although they picked up the win, the Eagles clearly missed Carter’s presence on the interior of their defensive line.

2025 Draft Class is Deep with Talent:

Weather delays suck. Plain and simple. After an hour-plus delay due to severe weather and lightning in the surrounding area of Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles and Cowboys did not finish up their game until well past midnight EST.

A Tale of Two Halves:

After going into halftime with a score of 21-20, Thursday’s game saw just another field goal added to the final score. The two NFC East offenses seemed unstoppable, but suddenly, nobody could get going again. Sports bettors were left distraught after what looked to be a locked bet with the over hitting turned into one of the poorer bad beats in recent NFL memory.
