The Packers 2023 third-round pick made big strides this season.
Amid the ups and downs of the 2024 Packers, Tucker Kraft was one undeniable bright spot.
Between his devastating gallops through the open field or his threats to burn down the childhood homes of opposing defenders, Kraft did plenty to endear himself to Packers fans throughout his second season, grabbing onto the Packers’ top tight end job and refusing to let it go.
The only real problem for Kraft was the Packers’ inability to get him involved more. He finished 2024 with 50 catches for 707 yards and seven touchdowns, but all of those numbers should probably have been bigger. In eight of the 18 games the Packers played in 2024, counting playoffs, Kraft was targeted three times or fewer, despite being one of their most consistent producers when the Packers put the ball in his hands.
But that’s not a Kraft problem, that’s an “everybody else” problem. Why? Because when the Packers’ offense had shortcomings, it was mostly on Kraft to provide the answers.
Need run blocking support? There’s Kraft. Need someone to fill in as a quasi-fullback? Hello, it’s Kraft again. Need a max-protect option on a deep passing play? Kraft is happy to oblige. Even when the Packers needed someone to push the pile in a short-yardage run situation, Kraft was there, carrying the ball five times for 16 yards, converting a first down on every one of his carries.
If the Packers want more from Kraft as a receiver in 2025, it’s on them to put pieces in place to relieve him from some of his other duties. He’s been asked to be a little bit of everything for the Packers to this point. If they want more out of him, the best path forward might be to have him do less.
Kraft’s 2024 could be a taste of things to come in 2025.
Jordan Love had a fine enough 2024, but elevating his game could take the rest of the team to new heights in 2025.
The Eagles are an interesting case study for how the Packers could improve in 2025 and beyond.
Who matters most for the Packers heading into the offseason?
There was plenty of both for the 2024 Packers.
It’s a polite no thank you from me.
