Acme Packing Company
The Packers announced themselves as Super Bowl contenders in late August with their trade for Micah Parsons. Now, nearly four months later, everything is more or less going according to plan.
Parsons is having a great year, and so are the Packers. At 9-3-1, they’re atop the NFC North and firmly in contention to be the top seed in the NFC playoff field. Outside of a couple of really inexplicable losses (boy it’d be nice to have the Browns and Panthers games back), there’s very little to complain about on a season-long level.
But there is still a lot of work to be done. Being in contention for the NFC’s top playoff seed in Week 15 is worth exactly nothing in the grand scheme. And at this point, there’s no actual guarantee the Packers will make the playoffs, either. There are many, many things that could go wrong between now and the end of the season, and if they’re not careful, a couple of missteps could bring everything the Packers have built crashing down around them.
That’s what makes this stretch of the season so intriguing and interesting. We’ve seen the Packers fail to take care of business at times this year, stumbling when they should handle teams easily (Browns and Panthers again, among others) and they certainly have their flaws they need to deal with. How will they overcome those flaws? How will they make sure they don’t stumble again?
The rest of the Packers’ season depends on the answers to those questions.
