Football fans loved Jim Harbaugh’s hilarious pregame moment with quarterback Trey Lance before kickoff for the Los Angeles Chargers-Detroit Lions Hall of Fame Game.

Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers are taking on Dan Campbell’s Lions in the first preseason game of 2025 in Canton, Ohio. Both teams are primarily playing second and third-stringers for the Hall of Fame Game, which bodes well for Lance.

The former No. 3 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft was named the starter ahead of Thursday’s showdown. Lance turned heads early with two touchdown passes in the opening half.

Before the game started, NBC Sports cameras caught an ecstatic Jim Harbaugh firing up Trey Lance on the sidelines, and the former San Francisco 49er and Dallas Cowboy absolutely loved it:

The 49ers traded up into the No. 3 spot via the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. They selected Trey Lance third overall, after Trevor Lawrence (first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars) and Zach Wilson (second to the New York Jets).

After backing up Jimmy Garoppolo in his rookie year, Lance opened the 2022 season as the 49ers’ starting QB. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, and 2022 Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy emerged as the new starter in San Fran.

The 49ers traded Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2023 season. He was the third-stringer behind Dak Prescott and veteran Cooper Rush, making one start last season before signing with the Chargers in free agency.
