The Pittsburgh Steelers invested heavily in the receiver room this offseason, trading for Michael Pittman Jr. and plucking Germie Bernard in the second round of April’s 2026 NFL Draft.
While the former is — or was, the details are unclear — in Wyoming with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and fellow wideouts DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek, Bernard appears to have been putting some work in ahead of his rookie training camp.
Route God posted a nearly minute-long video of Bernard working on his agility and breaking on routes with a multitude of cone drills on Monday night.
Earlier this month, Route God uploaded another video of Bernard working alongside Wilson, who’s heading into a crucial third season with the team after not being able to emerge during his first two.
NFL Draft on SI’s Justin Melo wrote about Bernard a week ago, saying he “was the savviest route runner in the receiver class, and he’ll do an excellent job working underneath the coverage while DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. play a more vertical game for the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
Bernard led Alabama with 64 receptions and 862 receiving yards last season. He yanked down seven touchdowns during the same campaign, more than he had during his first three college go-rounds combined (six).
“He has good size, accelerates to top speed quickly and is a smooth route runner with well-disguised breaks and clean footwork getting in and out,” NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein said in a pre-draft scouting report. “He can line up outside or in the slot and is capable of running a full route tree across all three levels.”
