FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Derrick Harmon didn’t wait to make an impact. Making his Pittsburgh Steelers regular-season debut, the rookie first-round draft pick wrapped New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye up, sharing a sack with Cam Heyward on the hosts’ second offensive series.

Harmon missed the first two games of the Steelers’ schedule while recovering from a sprained MCL. He suffered the injury in the team’s final preseason matchup, but dodged a serious injury.

On the play before his shared sack, Harmon yanked down fellow rookie and former Ohio State tailback TreVeyon Henderson. Another Steelers newcomer, Yahya Black, made the start for the Steelers in the middle of the team’s defensive front.

“I’m ready to go,” Harmon said Wednesday. “If my number is called, I’m ready to go. … It’s been tough, Your first year you want to be out there. First game, first few games not being out there to help the team, it hurts.”

The Steelers selected Harmon with the No. 21 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. The team had given up the fifth-most rushing yards (299) in the NFL over the first two weeks of the campaign.
