Bill Belichick has the North Carolina Tar Heels back on track after a shaky start to his college coaching career.
Following four straight losses, UNC improved to 4-5 with its second straight ACC win. The Tar Heels notched a 20-15 victory over Stanford at Chapel Hill on Saturday.
The program celebrated by posting a video of Belichick addressing his team in the locker room after the win. UNC’s 20-3 lead dwindled in the fourth quarter, but the defense shut down the Cardinal’s last stand.
“That’s what we thought it would be, coming right down to the wire,” Belichick said. “We had our chances to make a little more space than we had, but in the end, it’s a damn good win all the way around.”
The Tar Heels must win two of their final three games to earn bowl game eligibility. North Carolina will stay inside the state all month for a road matchup at Wake Forest, a home finale against Duke and a rivalry showdown at NC State to conclude the regular season.
“We got to keep building on that win now,” Belichick said. “We got three games in North Carolina now, so this is the heart of our schedule. We need to play our best football and have our best week of practice. Play our best football on Saturday.”
Belichick is onto Wake Forest, which upset No. 12 Virginia on Saturday. The ACC showdown takes place next Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET on The CW Network.
“Let’s keep grinding now,” Belichick told his team. “We can’t stop. We got to keep grinding, keep getting better. Keep believing in ourselves, believe in the process. Let’s make it three in a row.”
