The Washington Commanders have placed another starter on injured reserve. Zach Ertz suffered a torn ACL in last week’s shutout loss, and will miss the final four games. He is a pending free agent, but at 35 years-old, could call it a career after a major injury late in his 13th season. Dan Quinn confirmed the injury on Monday, and the team has now made it official. Ertz joined the Commanders last year, and played in 33 games, including three in the playoffs last season.

Ertz has been the clear #1 TE since joining the team, but Washington will now turn to the three other players behind him on the depth chart. John Bates has been a solid TE who excels at blocking. Washington drafted Ben Sinnott in the 2nd round last year, but he only has 10 career receptions. He’ll need to step up with four games to go. Colson Yankoff was an UDFA last year, and has been a core special teamer who has 2 career receptions.

The Commanders signed RB Chase Edmonds from the practice squad to fill the open roster spot. Lawrence Cager is the only tight end currently on the practice squad, but he hasn’t been elevated since signing here, and hasn’t played since 2023. Edmonds was elevated in Week 11 against the Dolphins, and was used as a kick returner. He’s familiar with Kliff Kingsbury’s offense from his time on the Cardinals. He will be the fourth RB behind Bill Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez Jr, and Jeremy McNichols. Washington also has UDFA Donovan Edwards on the practice squad.

Kevin Seymour was signed to the practice squad, and this will be his second season with the Commanders.

The team also made a pair of roster moves yesterday. Chris Moore was released to open a roster spot for Noah Brown who was activated from injured reserve last week. Moore was signed to the practice squad, and River Cracraft has been released. Moore was active for 11 games this season, starting five.
