The Washington Commanders had several players leave Thursday night’s game against the Packers with injuries, and two of them will require season-ending surgeries. RB Austin Ekeler(Achilles) and DE Deatrich Wise(calf) will be placed on injured reserve soon, and Washington will need to make some roster moves to fill out their depth.
The Commanders only have one RB on the practice squad, rookie UDFA Donovan Edwards from Michigan. They’re reportedly adding another one today, with former Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds signing to the practice squad. Edmonds(29) was placed on IR both seasons he was with the Buccaneers, and last year’s knee injury ended his season before it started. Edmonds spent three seasons with Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury when he was the head coach of the Cardinals.
Washington hasn’t announced any roster moves yet, but they have been trying players out, with Edmonds and Demetric Felton both working out today. The Commanders could sign Hampton and DE Jalyn Holmes to restock the depth, while adding two new players to the practice squad. TE John Bates and WR Noah Brown also suffered hamstring injuries Thursday night, and their healthy could lead to more roster movement if they are going to miss any significant time.
