The Washington Commanders have been dealing with a lot of injuries to start the season, but they’re getting some mixed news. Sam Cosmi tore his ACL during the divisional playoffs round, a win over the Detroit Lions in January. He had successful surgery, and has been working to get back on the field. The Commanders have officially opened his 21-day practice window, allowing him to work with the team before he is activated from reserve/PUP. Washington now has three weeks for Cosmi’s “ramp up” and return.
Nick Allegretti began the season as the Commanders right guard, but Andrew Wylie took over for him in Week 3. Chris Paul also took over as the starting left guard for Brandon Coleman, who had been the team’s left tackle last season. When Cosmi returns, he will take take over his spot at RG with Wylie moving to a reserve role. Trent Scott has been playing as a 6th OL the last two weeks with QB Jayden Daniels sidelined with a knee sprain.
The Commanders suffered another season-ending injury is last week’s loss to the Falcons. Defensive end Javontae Jean Baptiste tore his pec, and will miss some time. He was placed on injured reserve today. The Commanders signed Preston Smith two weeks ago, but he hasn’t been active which could change this week.
Washington filled the open spot on the 53-man roster by signing CB Antonio Hamilton from the practice. He’s been elevated the last two weeks, and now gets added to a secondary that’s been dealing with injuries. It was reported yesterday that the team had tried out three WRs, and they were signing Robbie Chosen. The Commanders made that move official today.
