The Washington Commanders will be without another key lineman when they face the Philadelphia Eagles. They already ruled out Sam Cosmi with a torn ACL, and now DT Daron Payne will also miss the NFC Championship game. Payne hasn’t practice all week due to a new knee injury. He was already on the injury report due to a dislocated thumb that he played with against the Lions, but the knee injury was too much to play through this week. Payne had been seen icing up the knee, and wanted to play. This will be the second game Payne has missed in his career.

The Commanders got Jonathan Allen back from injured reserve a few weeks ago, and now he will lead a new group on the defensive line with Payne out. Johnny Newton was a 2nd round pick this year, and his responsibilities on the line are going to pick up. Sheldon Day has been a solid veteran pick up this year. Washington also has Jalyn Holmes who has played some DT in his limited snaps this season.

Washington also elevated two players from the practice squad for tomorrow’s game, and they have both been elevated multiple times this season. DT Carl Davis hasn’t been on the active roster during the postseason, but used his maximum three elevations during the regular season. He’s been a decent run defender, which will be needed as the Commanders prepare for another matchup with Saquon Barkley. CB Kevon Seymour is also a regular on the special teams unit, and gets another game check this week.
