Washington Commanders move on from DC Joe Whitt

The Kliff Kingsbury news hit first, but defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr is also out in Washington. Dan Quinn took of defensive playcalling from the first-time DC, and now he’s done with the Commanders. Whitt was Quinn’s pass game coordinator/secondary coach when they were with the Cowboys, and he brought him to Washington, along with a promotion. Whitt’s defense has not been good, and was getting blown out for multiple games before Quinn stepped in, slowing the bleeding a little. Injuries this season have been a problem on both sides of the ball, with the defense losing multiple DEs and DBs.

This offseason will be critical for Quinn after the disappointment of this 5-12 that started with high hopes after getting to the NFC Championship game in their first season. He will need to nail both hires for his new coordinators, whether that’s from someone already on the staff, someone he’s worked with before, or a new addition to his coaching tree.
