Field Gulls
Klint Kubiak may be the headline name in terms of a Seattle Seahawks assistant coach who could potentially be heading elsewhere, but the defensive coaching staff will undoubtedly also attract interest from other teams.
The Washington Commanders, who are stacked with former Seahawks on the coaching staff, player roster, and front office, have interviewed Seahawks defensive backs coach/pass game coordinator Karl Scott for their vacant defensive coordinator role. This news was first reported by ESPN’s Commanders reporter, John Keim.
Following a disappointing 5-12 campaign, Washington fired defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr, with his fate more or less sealed when head coach Dan Quinn took over play-calling duties in the middle of the season.
Scott is one of the few holdovers from the Pete Carroll era, having been hired by Seattle back in 2022. Throughout Scott’s tenure, the Seahawks have developed a formidable secondary, headlined by draft picks Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, Nick Emmanwori, and Coby Bryant. Add in the rise of undrafted safety Ty Okada and the free-agent acquisition of Julian Love in 2023, and the Seahawks boast tremendous depth at a position that was once a scarcity.
Seattle’s defensive coordinator, Aden Durde, has already been interviewed by the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons.
Don’t expect this to be Scott’s last interview for a DC job. The Seahawks’ coaching staff is clearly in high demand.
