Brian Robinson Jr. now has a new home.

The standout running back, who was subject to cut rumors last week, is now headed to the Bay Area.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Washington Commanders are trading him to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Ben Standig, previously of The Athletic and now covering the team independently, shocked everyone last week when he stated that the emergence of seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt could see Brian Robinson Jr. off the squad by the time Week 1 against the New York Giants rolls around.

It turns out he was correct, but instead of being cut, he was shipped out of town.

Robinson became an instant fan favorite after he survived a shooting in 2022.

Brian Robinson was shot multiple times during an attempted carjacking, with at least two bullets striking his lower body.

Now, he heads to a 49ers team that recently placed running back Patrick Taylor Jr. on IR. He posted a career-high 109 yards on 17 carries in San Francisco’s Week 18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last season.

Brian Robinson Jr. Will Take A back Seat To Christian McCaffrey

The San Francisco 49ers have a healthy Christian McCaffrey back in their squad. However, at 29 years old, the mileage is starting to add up.

That is why the team went out and traded for Bran Robinson.

With no McCaffrey last season, the 49ers were an underwhelming team, going 6-11 and finishing at the bottom of the NFC West division.

Brian Robinson is three years younger and provides much-needed depth going forward.

Robinson Jr. ran for a career-high 799 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in the 2024 NFL season.
