We’re on to the fourth quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium, and your Minnesota Vikings are now blowing out the Washington Commanders by a score of 24-0.
The Commanders got the ball first coming out of halftime after the Vikings won the coin toss and took the football first, and they moved the ball into Minnesota territory. It looked like the Vikings’ defense had forced a turnover, with Eric Wilson getting a strip-sack of Jayden Daniels and the Vikings recovering the fumble, but they were called for twelve men on the field and the takeaway was negated. Washington then converted on a 4th-and-1 play and soon found themselves in the red zone. The Commanders then had a 4th-and-3, chose to roll the dice again. . .and Andrew Van Ginkel happened.
Van Ginkel returned the interception down to the Washington 30-yard line. The Vikings’ offense didn’t move the ball much, but they were within range for Will Reichard, who put the ball just inside the right upright to make it a three-possession game at 17-0.
Marcus Mariota took over for the Commanders on their next possession, as Daniels was injured on the return of Van Ginkel’s interception. The possession ended the same way, however, as Mariota’s second pass was intercepted by the ageless Harrison Smith for his thirty-eighth career pick. He took the ball to the Washington 37 to set the Vikings up in scoring position once again.
The Vikings cashed in on the turnover again, as McCarthy connected with Josh Oliver for the second time today, this time from six yards out to make it 24-0 with just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Commanders then had to punt the ball away again, and the Vikings are now looking at a 2nd-and-1 from the Washington 41-yard line.
It’s looking good for the purple as we head into the final fifteen minutes of play, ladies and gentlemen, as the Vikings hold a 24-0 lead over the Commanders as we head to the fourth quarter. Come on in and join us for the final fifteen minutes of play in this Week 14 contest!
