The Washington Commanders could be set to offer fans some Redskins nostalgia, though they’ve made it clear that they are moving on from the name.

The team is reportedly planning to reintroduce some elements from their classic look, with new owner Josh Harris hinting at such earlier this year, having teased that the franchise would return to “our brand” back in February.

The Commanders are planning some uniform changes for the 2025 season, having brought back the signature gold pants in 2024.

But, despite the calls for the name to be changed back to Redskins, Harris has shut the idea down, stating unequivocally that the name is off the table.

Washington Commanders Set To “Go Back”

While the team won’t be returning to monikers of times past, they may very well do the next best thing. According to Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980, the Commanders will introduce a uniform that will be very similar to the old ones, without the logo, of course.

“I have it on good authority that they are going to go back to something resembling the old uniforms, sans the more recent Redskins logo,” Sheehan wrote.

The NFC East franchise is undoubtedly keen on reconnecting with its roots amid calls for a full return to old ways.

Of course, the latter isn’t about to happen, but we imagine fans will be happy enough with the current situation, given the team’s exciting 2024 season and the fact that they now have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

Having some of the old elements return should make them feel even better.
