A warrant for the arrest of San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been issued on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office in the wake of a viral video of him speeding.

Reports indicate that the warrant comes after a video was posted by Aiyuk in December 2025. He filmed himself going faster than the 40 mph speed limit on a road that passes Levi’s Stadium, the 49ers’ home stadium.

While he apologized for the video, the Santa Clara Police Department stated that they’d investigate whether criminal charges would be filed. The case was forwarded to the DA’s office on Jan. 15, 2026.

Why was a warrant for 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk’s arrest issued?

The arrest warrant comes on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding. Aiyuk’s video showed him speeding, and the investigation, which has lasted several months, has seemingly concluded.

This adds another potential hurdle during his offseason. He didn’t play at all during the 2025 season after having his 2024 campaign cut short due to tearing his ACL and MCL. This came right after he signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with San Francisco.

Aiyuk is a former first-round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft. He broke out during his third year in the NFL, catching 78 passes for 1,015 yards and eight touchdowns. The following year, he posted a career-high in receiving yards (1,342) and also had seven touchdowns. His efforts in 2023 landed him a Second-team All-Pro nod. While at Arizona State in college, he was named to the First-team All-Pac-12.

The Niners could use Aiyuk back in 2025. They made it deep into the playoffs during his two 1,000-yard seasons. The 49ers made it to the NFC Championship in 2022, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2023, they made it to the Super Bowl, only to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs.
