Wait a Year? Steelers Scout Potential Top 2027 NFL Draft Quarterbacks
Steelers Now Steelers Now

While the Pittsburgh Steelers have been hyper-fixated on quarterback prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft throughout this college football season, they are also taking a glimpse into the future, as well.

On Saturday, the Steelers scouted the two players who are most likely to be the top quarterback prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft, as they played against one another.

The Steelers had a representative at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida at the Gators hosted the Texas Longhorns in a battle between quarterbacks Arch Manning and DJ Lagway.

Manning is a true junior and in his first season as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback. He is technically eligible to come out as part of the 2026 NFL Draft class, but has been struggling so far this season and it seems more likely that he will wait until 2027. Through four games, he’s completed 61.3% of his passes for 888 yards, nine touchdowns, three interceptions and a 154 passer rating.

Lagway is a true sophomore and in his first full season as Florida’s starter after taking over for Graham Mertz midseason in 2024. This year, he’s completed 67.5% of his passes for 690 yards, five touchdowns, six interceptions and a 118.3 passer rating.

While Omar Khan and company have loaded up the draft capital to make a trade up the board for a quarterback in 2026, they also need to be aware of what’s coming down the portal when it comes to taking a big swing at a quarterback.

Additionally, the Steelers are also scouting Penn State quarterback Drew Allar and UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava, for the second time each this season.
