While it isn’t quite as dramatic as the trade involving these two teams and a quarterback nearly a decade ago, the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a trade involving a quarterback.

According to numerous sources, the Vikings have agreed to send Sam Howell and a 2026 sixth-round draft choice to the Eagles in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2026 and a seventh-round pick in 2027.

The Vikings acquired Howell from the Seattle Seahawks on draft weekend, ostensibly to be the backup to J.J. McCarthy. The deal saw the Vikings and Seahawks exchange fifth-round picks, with the Vikings dropping down in the fifth round, with Howell getting added into the process.

Howell had his struggles this preseason, reportedly not looking very good in practices. He had a solid outing against the Houston Texans in the team’s preseason opener, but did not look good against New England in the Vikings’ second preseason contest.

The trading of Howell now, definitively, opens up a spot on the quarterback depth chart for the Vikings. The team brought in former top 5 pick (and former Eagle) Carson Wentz for a workout on Saturday, and signed him on Sunday morning, so the team now has a veteran presence in the quarterback room at the very least.

This could also mean that undrafted rookie Max Brosmer, who was very impressive during the preseason and who Kevin O’Connell has had a lot of positive things to say about this offseason, could be the #2 quarterback behind McCarthy when rosters are finalized on Tuesday afternoon.

What do you think of the Vikings sending Sam Howell away to Philadelphia, folks?
