The Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) will face the Minnesota Vikings (0-2) next Sunday in a game that should be close, considering both teams will be trotting out their backup quarterbacks.

But the Vikings may have found a slight edge, potentially in a tricky fashion.

Minnesota signed Desmond Ridder just in time for him to give them some inside info on the Bengals’ playbook. Ridder spent training camp and the preseason with the Bengals, so the Vikings are likely trying to get some intel from him on what to expect this week.

The phrasing of Ian Rapoport’s team implies this was a depth move in light of starting quarterback JJ McCarthy’s ankle injury suffered last week against the Atlanta Falcons.

But it’s also possible that Kevin O’Connell is looking to give Carson Wentz an advantage to prevent his team from falling into a 0-3 hole.

Ultimately, the Bengals should still be able to throw enough new things at the Vikings with Jake Browning taking over at QB, so Ridder’s knowledge of the playbook won’t be the deciding factor.
