Vikings Make Handful of Roster Moves Ahead of Green Bay Game
Daily Norseman Daily Norseman

With less than twenty-four hours to go before they kick things off against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, the Minnesota Vikings have made a handful of last-minute moves.

First, the team has added center Ryan Kelly to the 53-man roster without an injury designation, meaning that he is likely in line to start tomorrow against Green Bay. The Vikings had placed Kelly on injured reserve following his second concussion of the season back in Week 4, and opened his practice window ahead of last week’s game against Chicago.

If Kelly does start. . .and all indications at this point are that he will. . .it means that the Vikings will have the starting offensive line they envisioned in the preseason together on the field for the first time. Kelly will join Christian Darrisaw, Donovan Jackson, Will Fries, and Brian O’Neill up front. It may have taken until Week 12, but the purple will finally have their top offensive line together. Better late than never, right?

The team has also re-signed cornerback Dwight McGlothern to the practice squad and elevated him to the main roster for Sunday’s game. McGlothern was waived earlier in the week to open up a spot on the roster for Kelly’s return. The move left the Vikings a bit short at cornerback, but since nobody signed him the man they call “Nudie” is back on the squad.

In order to make room for McGlothern on the practice squad, the team has waived running back Cam Akers. Akers had already used up his standard elevations for this season, and so if the Vikings wanted to make use of his services again this season they would have needed to sign him to the roster. With Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason, and Zavier Scott on the depth chart at running back, there just wasn’t any room for Akers as things stand right now.

Those should be the final moves the Vikings make ahead of Sunday’s matchup at Lambeau Field, ladies and gentlemen. If they do execute any other moves, we will pass them along to you.
