Vikings Awarded OL Michael Gonzalez from Falcons

After a preseason opener that saw two of their players suffer (likely) season-ending injuries, the Minnesota Vikings have started the process of filling the roster out again.

The Vikings have been awarded offensive lineman Michael Gonzalez on waivers from the Atlanta Falcons. No corresponding move has been reported as of now, but it will likely involve either wide receiver Rondale Moore or offensive lineman Zeke Correll moving to season-ending injured reserve.

Gonzalez was an undrafted free agent out of Louisville who signed with the Falcons back in May. According to our friends over at The Falcoholic, the Falcons were looking to move Gonzalez to center after he started every game for the Cardinals at left guard, garnering Honorable Mention on the All-ACC team in the process. He was waived by the Falcons following their preseason opener, and has now found his way to Minnesota.

Moore, who missed all of the 2024 season with a torn ACL after signing with Atlanta, appears to have injured the other knee on his first play as a Viking. He took a punt return in the first quarter of Saturday’s game and went down awkwardly after being tackled near the sideline. He immediately grabbed for his leg and wound up being carted off the field. It would be a pretty rough break for Moore, who is looking at another potential season-ending injury in what has been a snake-bitten career since his electric freshman season at Purdue.

Correll suffered an ankle fracture in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game while he was blocking on a Tre Stewart run near the goal line. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vikings this offseason out of North Carolina State.

Once we have a corresponding move and/or an injury update to either Rondale Moore or Zeke Correll, we will bring that news to you.
