The Minnesota Vikings have made some recent roster moves, trading Sam Howell to the Eagles, signing Carson Wentz and releasing Brett Rypien. Those moves clearly set the depth chart at QB going into Week 1. J.J. McCarthy will be QB1, the experienced Carson Wentz will back him up and undrafted rookie Max Brosmer at QB3.
The depth chart looks better than it did a week ago. The season will depend heavily on J.J. McCarthy’s development. Anything that aids in that, is a good thing. Carson Wentz provides an experienced perspective in the meeting room and the capability to step in for a week or two if needed. Brosmer has the upside potential that you want in your QB3. He can develop (or not) while being the emergency QB. Viking fans probably don’t want to see him on the field in an actual game anytime soon.
I believe Kwesi has set the team up for success at the QB position. The skill positions are up there with the best in the league. The offensive line appears to be improved considerably. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on the man under center to be successful immediately.
