Welcome to the All-Time Favorite Viking Team series. We’re going through and voting by position for your favorite Viking players. There are no set criteria other than they played for the Minnesota Vikings. It’s your favorite player at that position.
We’re onto the least exciting position on the field. Punters are more important than they’re given credit for.
Chris Kluwe (2005-2012)
623 punts for 27,683 yards (44.4 avg)
Kluwe was a popular player in his day. The Vikings drafted Jeff Locke in 2013 to replace him.
Greg Coleman (1978-1987)
820 punts for 33,285 yards (40.6 avg)
Coleman was a punter with speed, a rarity at any level. He’s in the Black College Football Hall of Fame (2021). He spent several years as a sideline reported for KFAN until the end of the 2021 season.
Mitch Berger (1996-2001)
847 punts for 36,363 yards (42.9 avg)
Berger was the punter of my youth. He was a 2x Pro Bowler and 1x 2nd Team All-Pro.
Ryan Wright (2022 - present)
188 punts for 8,947 yards (47.6 avg)
