Vikes Views: Do You Like the KOC Extension?

The Minnesota Vikings and Head Coach Kevin O’Connell reached a multi-year extension on Tuesday. It will lock in the coach for several more years to come. O’Connell had one year left on his original four year contract. The Vikings are 34-17 under O’Connell’s leadership in the regular season, but 0-2 in the playoffs. A month ago this would have been nearly unanimous and I still believe it will be incredibly popular with the fan base, but the playoff history will give some pause.

General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is also on his last year of his contract and it sounds like a similar extension is coming soon. He was tasked with figuring out the Kirk Cousins situation, shed some larger contracts and bring youth to the team. It appears the right call was made on the Cousins front and the team is top 5 in the league in cap space heading into next year. For better or worse, Adofo-Menash will be judged on JJ McCarthy’s development and how he pieces the roster together with limited draft picks this offseason. It sounds like he’ll have a few more years to see it through.
