Vikes Views: All Time Favorite Team

The offseason is here and I always go back and remember my favorite plays from the year and look back at previous teams. The Vikings have had what seems like three generations of fans. The 70s Super Bowls, the 90s/00s Denny Green teams and the more modern Zimmer/KOC generation. There are more in between obviously, but those were/are the best times in purple. If you started right after the Moss trade, I don’t know how you stuck through those lean years until we got to the Favre run.

Those teams have had some legendary talents and all time greats like Page, Moss, Krause, Eller, Marshall and many others. It’s easy to name favorites of generations, but how do you measure who is more popular between Paul Krause and Harrison Smith? What about Moss, Carter, Diggs, Thielen, Rashad & Jefferson if you can only start two?

This Vikes View series will explore this question position by position, eventually leading to your all time favorite Vikings team. The criteria is yours. The only requirement is that the player played for the Vikings. I will list the most likely candidates to win and if “someone else” ever happens to actually win, I guess we’ll have to have a runoff.

We’ll start with the offense and the move to special teams, go to the defensive side of the ball and end with the coaching staff and front office. The Vikings have had greats on both sides, but the defensive battles will be epic. Will we leave off HOFers for hometown favorites?

I’m going to use an offense with 12 personnel (1 RB, 2 TEs). For the defense, I’ll stick with a base 4-3 defense. The team current is running the 3-4, but have considerably more history with the 4-3.
