Field Gulls Field Gulls

Seattle’s young superstar corner talks Mike Macdonald, what makes a good nickel corner, and more.

The Seattle Seahawks weren’t playing in the Super Bowl in New Orleans this season but that didn’t stop a few of their young stars from making the interview rounds.

One of those players was second-year player and two-time Pro Bowler Devon Witherspoon. Spoon may not have had a flashy season in terms of stats, yet he was still arguably the best player on the Seahawks defense and has the utmost respect of his peers and coaches.

Count Jon Gruden among one of his fans.

The former NFL head coach had Spoon on his Gruden Goes Long show and talked about a variety of topics including a look into why Devon plays like he’s pissed off.

“I make it personal for me,” Witherspoon said.

They also delved into Spoon’s penchant for trash talk on the field and Gruden tried to banter with Seattle’s young superstar. You can see the results below but if Gruden thinks he was one of the best trash talking coaches when he was in the NFL…woof.

I recommend watching the full video since there are some other nice tidbits including Spoon calling Macdonald “weird and nerdy…but in a good way” and Gruden telling Devon that he “f-–king loves” watching him play when talking about his incredible effort on the field.

Seattle’s got a good one, folks, and we’re not the only ones noticing it!
