The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a chance to add a legitimate No. 2 wide receiver this season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ No. 2 wide receiver situation is still unsolved as the 2025 NFL regular season nears its kickoff, but their answer at the position could come sooner rather than later.
Las Vegas Raiders veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who requested a trade last week as he seeks a contract extension, is not planning to back down any time soon.
“I asked. They said, ‘No.’ That’s where that stopped,” Meyers said, via Nick Walters of KTNV. “For me, it don’t stop. I’m still pushing to take care of my family every day. So if it stops for them, I’m gonna have to bring it back up or something. For me, it ain’t dead yet. I’m gonna keep fighting.”

Meyers, 28, is entering the final year of his current deal and is owed $10.5 million in salary this season. However, he is coming off the best season of his career, during which he recorded a career-high 87 catches for 1,027 yards.
That’s exactly the type of production the Steelers would love to pair with wide receiver DK Metcalf in their offense.
Meyers doesn’t have a specific destination he’s looking to be traded to, either.
“It’s a job,” Meyers said. “At the end of the day, I’m happy to be doing my job with my boys, but I could be happy anywhere.”
Pittsburgh did already give Metcalf a massive, five-year, $150 million contract after acquiring him from the Seattle Seahawks this offseason, but Meyers won’t demand that type of money.
Meyers could just prove to be the Steelers missing piece on offense. The only questions is: Can they find a way to pry him out of Las Vegas?
“I really don’t know where it’s gonna go,” Meyers said. “But like I said, I’m ready to go if you want me to go, I’m ready if you need me to play.”
