The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly bringing back Robert Woods to a practice squad contract after his release on Tuesday’s cut-downs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are beginning to fill out their practice squad following Tuesday’s cut-down deadline. After bringing back a familiar face, they are set to bring back a veteran cut on Tuesday. Veteran wide receiver Robert Woods is returning to the Steelers on a practice squad deal.

Veteran WR Robert Woods plans to re-sign with the #Steelers practice squad for now, per source.

Other teams showed interest in Woods before the cutdown, so it could be a temporary situation. Players on practice squads are free to sign elsewhere anytime.

The former Super Bowl champion receiver will remain a veteran presence in the Steelers locker room. In May, Woods expressed what drew him to Pittsburgh, which may have helped keep him around.

“Obviously, coach Mike Tomlin is a great coach. I just wanted to play for him,” Woods told reporters.

“But not only him, the colors, the team, the history, and then being able to have an opportunity to showcase my talent. The receiver room, I feel like it’s open, being able to come out here and compete and play well. We want to push this team to get better, myself to get better, and felt it was just a great opportunity to come here and be on the field.”

Despite his veteran presence and resume, Woods saw limited action with the first team in preseason play. In fact, he was seen playing deep into the Steelers’ preseason finale.

The former Los Angeles Rams receiver came into the league after being drafted in the second round of the 2013 draft by the Buffalo Bills. He won a Super Bowl after departing for Los Angeles.

Before joining Pittsburgh, Woods spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans following his Los Angeles tenure.
