Updated Commanders 74-player offseason roster/depth chart and salary cap at the end of March 2025
Hogs Haven Hogs Haven

There are 74 players currently on the offseason roster

There have been several changes to the Commanders roster since we published the last depth chart update. Here’s a quick summary of the most recent reported transactions:

  • LB/DE Dante Fowler signed with Dallas Cowboys
  • OL Nate Herbig signed
  • DE Clelin Ferrell extended
  • DL Jalyn Holmes extended
  • OL Foster Sarell signed
  • WR Michael Gallup signed

On the whole, these late signings were very thrifty, with all of the Commanders signings and extensions (aside from Clelin Ferrell) qualifying for salary cap savings under the Veteran Benefit.

Overall, Adam Peters again seems to have focused on raising the floor in veteran free agency, and has traded draft picks three times since early November in an effort to make immediate roster upgrades by acquiring CB Marshon Lattimore, WR Deebo Samuel and LT Laremy Tunsil.

He will have an additional 5 bites at the apple in April’s draft, with 1st, 2nd & 4th round picks in particular available to help raise the ceiling on the 2025 roster.

The updated offseason roster/depth chart

The numbers that appear beside some players’ names are 2025 cap hits per Over the Cap. I have not included cap hits below $1.5m.

The Commanders currently have 32 defensive players, 39 offensive players and 3 special teams players.

Please note that assigned positions and color coding are my own personal opinions. They do not necessarily represent the thinking of Washington’s coaches or front office, nor are they necessarily consistent with fan consensus. This chart represents my personal interpretation, and may not reflect the thoughts of other writers on Hogs Haven. Finally, when it comes to backup players, I don’t put much effort into making sure that they are on the right or left or behind the specific player that they backup. I mostly just try to fit everyone on the chart efficiently as the goal is to visually represent the offseason roster and not predict regular season usage.

With 74 players under contract and 5 draft picks in hand, we can anticipate — absent a trade for more picks — about 11 undrafted college free agents or late-signing veteran free agents to be added to the roster to reach the offseason limit of 90 players.

SALARY CAP UPDATE

At the moment, having accounted for all 74 players that the Commanders currently have under contract for the 2025 season, OTC estimates that Washington has available cap space of $26.33m.

OTC also projects Effective Cap Space (the amount available after draft picks are signed) at $24.02m.

Deebo NOTE:
For reasons I can’t fully explain, after OTC initially said they would treat Deebo Samuel’s contract as a one-year deal for ~$17.4m, the site has his contract listed the way I initially said it would be treated; that is, a 2025 cap hit of $5.15m with another $12.4m tucked into 4 void years.

Without an extension, that $12.4m...
