PITTSBURGH — A notable absence from the first day of Pittsburgh Steelers OTAs on Tuesday was likely explained on Wednesday. Rookie wide receiver Roc Taylor, a player that many have been excited to see as a potential fit in an overall weak group of wide receivers after the trade of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.

But Taylor was not spotted in drills with the rest of the wide receivers on Tuesday. Wednesday, Taylor was working off to the side with a member of the training staff, which is usually the process for a player recovering from an injury.

Taylor turned heads during rookie minicamp earlier this month, and with the Steelers low on outside receiving options after trading Pickens, he’s been looking forward to making an impact.

“Oh yeah, most definitely,” Taylor said at rookie camp. “It’s most definitely motivation for me to keep going, work hard, just do what I can do and control what I can control.”

The 6-foot-2, 213-pound Taylor said he expects to play the X wide receiver position, the one Pickens vacated when he was traded.

Taylor was a late bloomer at Memphis, catching only eight passes as a freshman and 20 as a sophomore. Overall in his career at Memphis, Taylor caught 163 passes for 2,375 yards and seven touchdowns. He ranks fifth in school history in both catches and receiving yards.

At the 2025 NFL Combine, Taylor ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash with a 1.53-second 10-yard shuttle, 30 1/2-inch vertical jump and 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He posted a 7.23 Relative Athletic Score.
