NFL training camp is now less than two weeks away, and the Washington Commanders have yet to resolve the contract dispute with star wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

The 29-year-old wide receiver is entering the last season of a three-year extension he signed in 2022 worth $68.2 million. The market for star wide receivers has increased considerably since, and Terry McLaurin certainly outplayed the first two years of that new deal.

During the June 30 edition of “The Pat McAfee Show”, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that there’s “quite a gap between what both sides want right now and they have not made any progress.”

If McLaurin and the Commanders are unable to find middle ground before the start of the season, it may be best for GM Adam Peters to trade the star wideout rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2025 free agency.

Mike Kadlick of Sports Illustrated listed five potential landing spots for Terry McLaurin. Kadlick made a compelling case for the New York Jets to acquire the Commanders superstar and form a dynamic duo with Garrett Wilson:

“General manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn are trying to turn over a new leaf in New York, and what better way to do so than to get your new quarterback in Justin Fields a second high-volume target?

Should the Jets pull off a trade for McLaurin, they’d pair him with young star Garrett Wilson—who has totaled 1,000+ yards in each of his first three seasons in the NFL. He would also bring some much-needed experience to a team that’s been longing for an adult in the room.

Oh yeah, and the trio of Fields, Wilson, and McLaurin are all former Ohio State Buckeyes—so that’s fun, too.”

Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall and rookie tight end Mason Taylor headline the revamped Jets offense. But pairing McLaurin with a bona fide superstar like Wilson would add another element to the Jets’ offense and turn them into playoff contenders.

What Jets Should Offer Commanders For Terry McLaurin

McLaurin will be 30 years old in September, so the Commanders can’t realistically expect a first-round pick in return. If McLaurin agrees to an extension with the Jets, a fair offer would be a 2026 second-round pick in exchange for the star wideout and a 2026 fifth-round selection.

With McLaurin and Wilson leading the way on offense, the Jets would be well-suited to make some noise and compete for a wild card spot in the difficult AFC.
