The Indianapolis Colts thought they were dropping the funniest NFL schedule release of the year. Instead, they sparked backlash, drew Microsoft’s ire, and dragged Tyreek Hill into the mess, all in under a minute of Minecraft animation.

The clip showing a dolphin getting arrested clearly refers to Hill’s real arrest earlier this year in Miami. The imagery involving Hill sparked enough controversy that the Colts quickly removed the video. The clip quickly blew up for all the wrong reasons.

In a formal statement, the team apologized, saying, “We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.”

Hill’s Response And Fan Reactions Tell A Different Story

Despite the online uproar, Hill’s reaction wasn’t what many expected. According to ESPN’s Stephen Holder, Hill laughed it off. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told the outlet that the Pro Bowl receiver didn’t take offense and didn’t believe the team needed to take it down for his sake.

“He laughed about it and didn’t think they needed to take it down on his account,” Rosenhaus said.

While Hill shrugged it off, Microsoft’s intellectual property concerns likely played a bigger role in the decision to yank the video. The tech giant’s reach and influence far outweigh even the NFL’s, and few teams are willing to test those waters.

On social media, many NFL fans echoed Hill’s casual reaction, wondering if the apology was really necessary. One user quipped, “They had to apologize for Tyreek Hill getting arrested? Did Tyreek Hill apologize for getting arrested?”

Another viewer pointed out the double standard, referencing a scene where the video shows Titans QB Will Levis getting hit by a bus: “They literally MURDERED Will Levis… where’s that apology? lol.”

Others simply chalked the controversy up to the nature of online content. “Should’ve left it up and own it. The internet is forever so it’s still out there” one fan wrote.

What began as an edgy joke quickly turned into a PR scramble. The video sparked backlash and forced the Colts to react fast. Tyreek Hill’s lighthearted response helped ease much of the tension. His calm reaction likely prevented a bigger controversy. Still,...
