Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill ended last season by seemingly quitting on his teammates midway through the game and then telling reporters, “I’m out” on the franchise. After being welcomed back by the club for a fresh start, the All-Pro now seems to be causing new problems at Dolphins training camp.
Over the weekend, Hill seemed to take a public shot at running back De’Von Achane by suggesting the starting running back should be taken off the field by the coaching staff on third downs because he isn’t a short-yardage back. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel responded in his next press conference, using a displeased tone in response to Hill’s “suggestion” that the team do something during practices that very day.
“We thought it was funny that he reported the news that wasn’t news on that practice day in that short-yardage period that you guys were all there too for.”

Hill’s comments to reporters came just days after quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said that Hill needed to regain the trust of his teammates following his actions in the regular-season finale last season and his public request for a trade after that game.
“It’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that. A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek that are fans of his — everyone has seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything back up again.

Hill backed Tagovailoa’s comments, saying they “were needed” from the leader of the team. Miami’s No. 1 receiver then emphasized the importance of “showing up to meetings” and showing up to practice every day to work hard. On Sunday at Dolphins training camp, Hill was late for practice.
At the very least, it’s evident Hill won’t be on the Dolphins roster in 2026. The veteran wide receiver would be 32 years old with a cap hit that doesn’t merit his production. Fortunately for Miami, it can make him a cap casualty and create $36.3 million in cap space, making a departure a likely foregone conclusion.
