Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles have made a massive announcement, having agreed to participate in an event sports fans will definitely be looking forward to.
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver and the Olympic gold medalist are two of the fastest people on the planet. After taking shots at each other over the last several months, they are keen on finding out who is the faster of the two.
Hill and Lyles gave a joint interview to People Magazine this week, during which they revealed they would race each other in the spring or summer.
“This has been an ongoing thing for quite some time now, and I mean, everybody’s seen the back and forth on social media,” Hill said. “I’ve been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like.”
The two speedsters have been going at it since August, with Tyreek insisting he could beat the track star following his exploits at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Noah called him out with a sign reading “Tyreek could never” after winning a 60-meter final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix earlier this month.
“I think it speaks for itself,” Lyles told People. “Everybody says that they’re gonna be the world’s fastest, but when it comes down to it, you gotta be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win.”
“… That’s why I’m the world’s fastest. I did at the Olympics. I do it at world championships. I do it wherever it’s needed to be done. And if I gotta go down and, you know, beat up on Tyreek to prove that I’m the world’s fastest, then it’s gonna be done.”
The date and location of the race have yet to be decided, but the superstar athletes hope to race before Lyles runs at the U.S. Championships in July.
They haven’t settled on the distance either. Hill wants to run around 40 yards, while Lyles prefers 100 meters. They are likely to agree on something closer to the middle.
The Dolphins wideout said he respects Lyles and all track athletes but has “got to do this for the guys that play my sport.”
“We can come and take over your sport at any moment if we really wanted to,” he added.
Who do you have winning this one?
