Tyreek Hill was denied the opportunity to race Olympian Noah Lyles head-to-head. He took the next best option by competing against his younger brother.
The NFL wide receiver beat Josephus Lyles in a 100-meter dash at the ATX Sprint Classic on Saturday in Austin, Texas. He’s earned bragging rights over the family for the time being.
Hill and Lyles have had a back-and-forth rivalry dating back to the Paris Olympics. Hill mocked the World’s Fastest Man for not sweeping both the 100 and 200-meter events while battling a respiratory illness. He also challenged Lyles to a race.
“Noah Lyles can’t say nothing after what just happened to him and then he wants to pretend that he’s sick. I feel that’s like horse radish, so for him to say that we’re not world champions of our sport, it’s like, c’mon bro, just speak about what you know and that’s track.
“I would beat Noah Lyles… I won’t beat him by a lot, but I would beat Noah Lyles.”
-Tyreek Hill
Lyles responded by accepting the challenge while calling “Cheetah’s” bluff. The two then agreed on a head-to-head battle before Noah Lyles pulled out.
Lyles cited “personal reasons” in his vague reasoning for the cancellation.
“Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on. We were going to shut down New York’s Times Square and everything, it was going to be a lot of fun.”
-Noah Lyles
The rejection was a disappointment for those hoping to see the two athletic freaks square off. Tyreek Hill decided to take the next best route by racing Noah Lyles‘ brother instead.

Josephus Lyles is a 26-year-old American sprinter. He was not able to keep pace with the 31-year-old NFL star in Austin.
The ATX Sprint Classic is a well-known event, and Hill’s second organized race in the last few weeks. He ran a 10.15-second 100-meter earlier this month at the Last Chance Sprint Series.
Hill recorded a personal-best 10.10 seconds in his latest event, and while that was good enough to beat Josephus Lyles, the performance wasn’t good enough to get the win.
Tyreek Hill finished fourth in the seven-man race. Lawrence Johnson won with a time of 10 seconds flat.

We’ll see if Noah Lyles responds by re-booking that head-to-head challenge with Tyreek Hill after seeing the pass catcher take down his brother in the 100-meter race.
