Free-agent former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett has signed a one-year, $4 million deal worth up to $6 million with the Tennessee Titans, according to reports. Lockett signing with the Titans continues a trend of the franchise seemingly signing washed pass catchers.

The Titans are not expected to be very competitive next season, as their current win total is set at 5.5 games. As a result, the Titans haven’t been particularly active in the free agent market, signing the likes of linebacker Cody Barton, offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler, and cornerback Xavier Woods.

Yesterday, Tyler Lockett joined that list of free agent additions, penning a one-year deal with the team. Lockett, 32 years old, has been in the NFL since the Seahawks drafted him out of Kansas State in the 3rd round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Lockett’s best seasons in the NFL came between 2019 and 2022, as he put up at least 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns in each of those seasons. Last year, however, Lockett has his worst statistical season since 2017, as he caught 49 passes for 600 yards and two touchdowns.

Lockett signing with the Titans continues a long-running NFL trend of the franchise signing past-their-prime pass catchers, as one viral tweet with the caption “A tradition like any other” included photos of Randy Moss, Julio Jones, Eric Decker and Robert Woods in Titans jerseys.

Another viral post included Andre Johnson, Deandre Hopkins, Harry Douglas, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd on that list.

The Tennessee Titans have the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which kicks off from Lambeau Field in Green Bay tonight, April 24. The team is currently expected to take University of Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
