The Jets are on their bye week, but the team is working out a number of players, including free agent quarterbacks.

Now it should be noted that there isn’t anything unusual about a team working out free agents. Frequently teams do this just for due diligence. If an injury opens a roster spot, you need to know which potential replacement signings are in game shape.

What draws our attention is the Jets working out a pair of quarterbacks. This is because Tyrod Taylor missed the last game before the bye, a game he likely would have started if healthy, with a knee injury.

At least for the time being, Justin Fields has the starting job back. He had a strong performance for the Jets in the team’s first win of 2025. However, if Taylor continues to be sidelined undrafted rookie Brady Cook would be one snap away from stepping into the lineup. While the types of quarterbacks available at this time of year comprise an uninspired list, there are surely current free agents available who could run an NFL offense at a higher level than Cook.
