Twitter reacts to the bogus PI call on the Broncos late in the 4th quarter

The Broncos completed an improbable and historic comeback vs. the Giants on Sunday that saw them score 33 4th quarter points. However, their comeback was nearly derailed by the refs when they flagged Broncos cornerback Riley Moss for a bogus defensive pass interference call. This flag gave the Giants the ball at the 1-yard line after a personal foul penalty was called on an irate Sean Payton, who ran onto the field to argue the call. The Giants would score the go-ahead touchdown and leave the Broncos with 33 seconds and no timeouts to drive down the field for the game-winning field goal.

Thankfully, Bo Nix would lead the Broncos down the field with big throws to Marvin Mims and Courtland Sutton to get them into manageable field goal range for kicker Wil Lutz. He would kick the field goal and give the Broncos the victory despite the ref’s best efforts.

This call got the attention of many on Twitter, who called out the officiating here for being wrong. Moss played the ball perfectly, turned his head, and was playing the ball. However, because it was underthrown, the refs automatically throw the flag. One of the many analysts who called out the refs and knows a thing or two about cornerback play is former Seahawks and 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman.

He posted that the DPI on Riley Moss “is one of the worst calls I have ever seen!”. He comments that Moss turned around and played the ball and that the refs cannot call that penalty in that situation.

Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II responded to Sherman’s tweet and said that the refs were “abysmal,” but they got the dub anyway. Linebacker Justin Strnad told reporters that he agreed with head coach Sean Payton running onto the field to argue that call and added, “I had a few words for the referees myself”. Those words were left out so Strnad would not be fined by the NFL.

Sherman was not alone. Former Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. and safety T.J. Ward shared their thoughts on Twitter as well. Harris said, “This damn ref called some BS on Moss,” while Ward said, “Janky ass refs”. Former safety Nick Ferguson chimed in as well and said, “I’m calling BULL**** on this call right here”.

Here are some more reactions to that bogus DPI call on Riley Moss.

Again, the officiating crew tried to derail a Denver Broncos comeback, but in the end, they only made it even more special. As Patrick Surtain II said, got the dub regardless.
