One of the baked-in assumptions about the Packers’ 2025 offensive line is this: Jordan Morgan and Anthony Belton have to be at least decent.
The Packers will probably keep nine offensive linemen on their roster. Their five starters coming into camp were (from left tackle to right tackle) Rasheed Walker, Aaron Banks, Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan, and Zach Tom. Beyond that, then, there were four spots the Packers needed to fill.
Three of those four spots, arguably the next three guys off the bench if you want to look at it that way, were accounted for by Morgan, Belton, and recently departed Travis Glover. Even prior to Glover’s painful-sounding lat injury, that meant a lot was riding on Morgan and Belton. They represented two thirds of the Packers’ primary offensive line depth.
In short, for the Packers to have a strong offensive line, or at least have any kind of offensive line depth, they needed Morgan and Belton to live up to their draft status. And so far, it looks like they’re holding up their end of the bargain.
Both Morgan and Belton had solid preseason debuts, and even with Rasheed Walker back from injury, Morgan has been taking first-team reps with the offense. Belton, meanwhile, isn’t going to unseat Zach Tom at right tackle, but he’s been getting a sprinkling of first-team reps himself and looks like a possible swing tackle option.
It’s early. Performances so far represent some of the smallest of small sample sizes. But football is a small sample size sport, and Morgan and Belton are at least giving the Packers positive performances in what we’ve seen so far. Better that than the alternative.
