Shedeur Sanders has broken his silence on recent comments from Cleveland Browns teammate Dillon Gabriel.
Gabriel, a third-round Cleveland pick, seemed to take a dig at Sanders during an interview last week, claiming that “There’s entertainers and there’s competitors… my job is to compete,” which suggested that he was juxtaposing his approach to the game with Sanders’ flashy persona.
Shedeur, the son of football icon Deion Sanders, has had an impressive preseason, throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers before suffering an oblique injury in joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Gabriel clarified his statement after drawing backlash, insisting that it was directed at the media, not Shedeur.
“Entertainers are you all. Competitor, that’s what I am and all my teammates. We both have jobs to do,” he said.
The former Colorado star was asked about his teammate’s comments while speaking to reporters on Thursday, and declared that he isn’t affected by anyone’s words. He also revealed that Gabriel approached him directly during a flight and told him that what he said had nothing to do with him.
Asked whether he believed his fellow QB, however, he didn’t lean one way or the other, telling the reporter he was “tryna’ start something” before saying he didn’t know and it wouldn’t change his life either way.
“I don’t know,” he said. “And that’s not on me to sit here and be like ‘Oh he did, he didn’t’. That’s not gonna change my life in any way.”

Meanwhile, the Browns have yet to finalize their quarterback depth chart, although Joe Flacco has been named their Week 1 starter.
Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are competing for backup roles along with Kenny Pickett and Tyler Huntley.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski has lauded both rookies, noting that they’ve both shown good progress and have handled themselves well.
“They’re both progressing well,” Stefanski said. “We’re evaluating everything, but I appreciate how they’ve handled themselves.”
The Browns will play their final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams this Saturday.
