Trevon Diggs Wrote His Own Cowboys Ending

Trevon Diggs Wrote His Own Cowboys Ending
Inside The Star Inside The Star

I felt when the Cowboys released Trevon Diggs with one game left in the season, it didn’t feel like a shock, it felt like a long-time end that was brewing and finally arrived.

We all know Dallas didn’t cut him out of nowhere, they cut him because his presence wasn’t matching the price tag or expectations anymore.

That rings more true when you look at how his time here unraveled.

Trevon Diggs was one of the highest-paid corners in the NFL, signed to a five-year, $97 million extension in 2023.

However, since his payday, he’s only played 21 games since 2023, and has battled repeated injuries, and most importantly, the trust between him and the franchise faded.

Not Just Injuries, A Pattern of Distance

I know most fans don’t blame a player for their injuries. A torn ACL in 2023 and knee problems since are part of the brutal reality of the NFL, but it wasn’t just that he was hurt. It was how things unfolded around those injuries.

We can look around on social media or just do a quick Google search and see that there were ongoing disagreements between Diggs and the Cowboys about rehab locations, playing style, and offseason participation.

I found that it was to the point where Dallas enforced a salary de-escalation clause because he didn’t reach the required percentage of offseason program participation.

That matters because when you’re one of the so-called leaders on defense, your presence in meetings and in workouts is not just about health. It’s about culture.

The Travel Incident That Didn’t Help

According to multiple sources, the final straw wasn’t one big dramatic explosion, it was a series of choices that kept adding up.

This is the information we have been given from Cowboys insiders…

Most notably, after the Dallas Christmas Day win, Diggs reportedly chose to stay behind instead of flying back with the team after head coach Brian Schottenheimer denied his travel request.

This incident may seem small from a distance, but in the NFL, those moments matter to the team.

Teams want unity, they want everyone on the same page.

When a veteran with a massive contract starts making decisions that look like self-serving choices, the team is going to notice.

Especially, after making millions of dollars from that team.

Performance, Reputation, and the Cowboys’ Patience

I will be the first to say Diggs’ best football was memorable. He led the league in interceptions in 2021 and earned All-Pro honors.

Since then, game after game, it felt like the production wasn’t matching the investment.

All of us fans saw [the declining number, fewer splash plays, and what looked like a player who...
