Trend shows Dak Prescott has a big season when coming off an injury-plagued one

Dak Prescott appears ready for a productive season.

There might not be a more polarizing position in all professional sports than being the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. For the last nine seasons, Dak Prescott has enjoyed the fame and notoriety that comes with the starting QB job with Cowboys and has filled the position admirably. In his nine-year career he’s made three Pro Bowls, thrown for over 31,000 yards and 213 touchdowns, and has led the Cowboys to a 76-46 record in 122 starts.

Unfortunately, like with all professional sports, the NFL is a “what have you done for me lately” sport and Dak Prescott is coming off a very down season. He is rehabbing a season-ending hamstring injury that limited him to just eight games last year, but believe it or not a current trend suggests he’s primed to have a big year in 2025.

Looking back over the past several years at how Prescott has performed after coming off of an injury-plagued season leads one to believe the Cowboys starting QB is going to have a really good year in 2025. How you may be asking yourself? Well, let's take a look.

In 2020 Prescott only managed to play a total of five games due to a season-ending ankle injury he sustained that ultimately required surgery. The following season he bounced back in a big way throwing for nearly 4,500 yards (4,449) and 37 touchdowns, leading the Cowboys to a 11-5 record before losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs.

Then in 2022 a right thumb injury limited Prescott to just 12 starts, leading to one of his worst seasons of his career. He threw a career-high 15 INT's to just 23 touchdowns and 2,860 yards. But once again, he bounced back in a big way in 2023 throwing for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and just nine INT's, helping him to finish second in the MVP race.

That brings us to the present. Dak Prescott is once again trying to bounce back from an injury-plagued season that limited to just eight games. The question is, will he be able to bounce back like he has from previous injury plagued seasons to keep the trend going, or is father time starting to catch up to him like it did with Zack Martin?

With the renewed energy and culture Brian Schottenheimer is instilling with the Cowboys in his first-year as head coach, and with the moves Dallas has made in the offseason, there's no reason to believe Prescott can't potentially have a career year in 2025.
