Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has chosen an interesting tactic when it comes to weighing in on the narrative that the NFL’s refs seem to favor the Chiefs: playing dumb. While speaking at Super Bowl media day on Monday night, Kelce acted as if he couldn’t understand why it’s even a story in the first place.

While speaking to a swath of reporters during the NFL’s increasingly showy Super Bowl media day on Monday night, Travis Kelce was asked what he would ask the media if given the chance.

Kelce didn’t have to ponder long, as he immediately questioned why they’re “leaning” and “looking into this whole ref thing.”

“Why are you guys leaning into this whole ref thing, you know what I mean? Why are you guys looking into it?” the future Hall of Fame tight end quipped when asked what his question for the media would be in a bit of role-reversal.

“I don’t really care. I’m just asking why we’re making a big deal about it. Everybody has to abide by the rules,” Kelce later added.

Kelce is quite the media savvy dude, so this sort of tone deaf ignorance is relatively surprising, as it doesn’t take a rocket science to figure out why the NFL world is “making a big deal” about the two-time defending Super Bowl champions seemingly getting preferential treatment from the officials who govern the game.

Multiple videos of the refs giving the Bills poor spots in the AFC Championship game went viral in the days following the game, proving that NFL fans aren’t just *imagining* what they perceive to be preferential treatment for the Chiefs.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked a similar question on Monday and vehemently denied the notion that the Chiefs are favored by the refs.

“That’s a ridiculous theory — for anyone who might take it seriously. But at the end of the day, it’s something we always have to continue to work on: How do we make our officiating better?” Goodell said when asked about the public perception of the Chiefs and the refs.

Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, seeking a historic third-straight Super Bowl title, head into Super Bowl LIX has two-point favorites over Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles.
